PEP-UP: the formulation story behind Intradermology® Stage 2.

Every clinic has the same category of client. The one who reacts. The one who has tried the acid, tried the retinoid, tried the resurfacing facial, and come back with tight, flushed, uncomfortable skin and a quiet loss of confidence in professional skincare altogether.

That client is not looking for another active. They are looking for something that respects the barrier while the skin settles.

PEP-UP was formulated for exactly that brief. It sits in Stage 2 of the Intradermology® method, after the cleanse and prep stage and before SPF or a richer moisturiser, and it is built around three ingredient families that cosmetic science has studied extensively: peptides, skin identical barrier lipids, and marine biotech.

A coordinated peptide system, not a single hero

Most peptide serums lead on one name. PEP-UP uses a coordinated system, with each peptide selected for a different documented role in the cosmetic literature.

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 is a biomimetic peptide researched for its skin calming and comfort supporting properties, with published interest in the MC1-R receptor pathway. SH-Polypeptide-3 and SH-Oligopeptide-2 are recombinant peptides researched for their role in supporting skin renewal pathways. Acetyl Heptapeptide-4 and Heptapeptide-10 sit alongside them as skin conditioning peptides, researched for their role in supporting skin comfort and resilience.

For a practitioner, the useful point is that this is a system with a consistent direction of travel. Nothing in the peptide profile is there to challenge the skin.

A ceramide complex your clients’ barriers already recognise

The barrier story in PEP-UP is delivered through Ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II, cholesterol, and phytosphingosine.
These are skin identical lipids, researched extensively for their role in supporting the skin barrier and in the lamellar structure of the stratum corneum. Cholesterol is included for its documented synergistic role alongside ceramides, and phytosphingosine as a sphingoid base researched for its role in barrier lipid balance.
This is a clinically credible barrier lipid system rather than a single ceramide added for the ingredient list.

Marine biotech and hydration that does more than sit on the surface

PEP-UP contains Sonic Hyaluronic Acid, a sonicated form of HA developed to deliver hydration with skin soothing benefits, and Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, a marine biotech ferment researched for its barrier supportive and skin conditioning properties.

Hydration is completed with glycerin and butylene glycol as established humectants, alongside amino acids found in the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor (proline, alanine and serine), researched for their role in hydration and barrier support.

Hydrogenated lecithin and sodium lauroyl lactylate are included as phospholipid based skin conditioning components researched for their barrier supportive properties, and silanetriol as a silicon based bioactive researched for its supportive role in dermal structural integrity.

Where PEP-UP fits in your treatment plan

PEP-UP is a Stage 2 product. In practice, that means three main placements.
▪ Post protocol recovery. Clients coming out of an intensive in clinic protocol who need a home care step that supports comfort while the skin settles.
▪ The sensitive skin consultation. Clients presenting as reactive, redness prone, or easily irritated, who have historically tolerated conventional active ranges poorly.
▪ Environmental sensitivity. Clients reporting dryness, tightness and reactivity that tracks with season, travel, or working environment.

Because the formulation is peptide and ceramide led rather than exfoliant led, it is a straightforward product to introduce early in a client relationship, before you have a full picture of tolerance.
How we talk about evidence

Intradermology® is a practitioner brand, so we would rather be precise than loud.

The language we use about PEP-UP is ingredient level and formulation level. Every ingredient described above is documented in cosmetic science literature for the category of effect stated, and PEP-UP is manufactured under ISO 13485:2016 quality standards.

Where you see outcome data associated with Intradermology®, it is presented as documented results following a complete Intradermology® regime, at the level of the method rather than any single product. We think that is the honest way to present it, and it is the way we ask our stockist clinics to present it too.

Talking to clients about PEP-UP

A short script that stays inside defensible language.

“This is our Stage 2 serum. It is built around a peptide system and a ceramide complex made from lipids your skin already recognises, plus a marine biotech ferment and hyaluronic acid. It is designed for skin like yours that needs support rather than more challenge, and it goes on after cleansing, before your SPF.”

That is enough. It is accurate, it is specific, and it does not promise your client a measured outcome you would have to defend.
