WOW Fusion for Acne

Approx 4 minute read |

Over recent years, it’s reported that there has been a 200-percent increase in the number of adults seeking acne treatment with close to 85-percent of adults experiencing some form of acne in their lifetime, it comes as no surprise this is one of the most common issues that our WOW fusion device is used for.

Firstly, it’s important that you fully understand what acne is, why it develops, and assess the reasons behind why your client may be suffering from acne.

Acne Explained

For more info on what causes acne, read our recent article , which covers a breakdown of the four direct factors that contribute towards acne, and some very basic steps that your clients can take at home to help resolve the issue.

However, as a professional, it’s important that you know there are also some indirect factors that influence these four direct factors, such as:
  • Skincare products, makeup, and hair products can all clog pores
  • Hormones, stress, and the menstrual cycle in women can all influence oil production
  • There are also some medications, including corticosteroids, anabolic steroids, and lithium that are known to cause acne

Most skin disorders, including acne, are a window into a systemic condition. For example, hair loss or excess hair growth, rapid weight loss or gain, irregular menstrual cycles, in addition to acne, can all be ‘red flags’ of an underlying issue, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, or other endocrine disorders.

With that said, it’s also very important to be wary of misinformation about nutrition and skin. Diet plays a huge factor in influencing inflammation throughout the body and shouldn’t be dismissed. The evidence on the relationship between diet and acne is just starting to bloom, however, I personally have overcome severe cystic acne myself through removing sugar, dairy, and meat from my diet entirely, replacing meals with plant-based alternatives, as well as introducing hormone balancing herbs and supplements to my everyday diet.

WOW Fusion for Acne

If your client is suffering from acne or has scarring leftover from previous bouts of acne, the WOW fusion device offers a world-class solution using ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, or the multivitamin complex, adding nutrition to the skin to help balance sebum production.

You can also use anti-wrinkle ingredients to reduce the production of oil in the skin and reduce inflammation, which will calm, soothe, and restore the skin resulting in fewer incidences of acne breakouts.

Acne Scarring

When it comes to acne scarring, scars are formed when a breakout penetrates the skin deeply, damaging the tissues beneath it. Micro-needling is seen as a world-class treatment for acne scarring because it stimulates collagen and elastin to plump and smoothen the skin.

Before you try to treat these scars, it’s important to know what type they are. As each type will respond to treatment differently, and some treatments are better for particular types than others.

Depressed acne scars are some of the most common with various types known as box scar, ice-pick, and rolling scars. Then there are raised scars, which are more common on the chest or back, standing above the surface of the skin and are caused by too much collagen during healing. Then, of course, there are dark spots, the most common of them all, which is simply discolouration left behind after a spot has cleared. These aren’t actually scars, and will often clear of their own accord, fading after a few months or so.

WOW Fusion for Acne Scarring

We recommend using the 1-millimetre device to treat acne scarring with an anti-aging complex, full of active ingredients that will help to stimulate collagen and elastin. Adding hyaluronic acid will also plump the skin and allow the fibroblasts to proliferate, further increasing collagen and elastin production, really reducing the tension that comes from depressed acne scarring.

We advise following that on with a course of WOW Fusion treatments to continue to plump out the acne scarring and reduce the appearance of depressions in the skin. This will result in skin that looks brighter, smoother, and healthier over time.

We encourage you to offer the client a simple, non-irritating skincare routine at home with a selection from our gentle, scientifically proven Intradermology range and advise your client never to squeeze or pick at acne lesions, as that will likely worsen any discolouration and scarring.
